Our Brand Bio
In the year 2000, Paulette Palmer and her French husband moved to France to live having decided that London "living and working" was no longer for them.
The brand Le Moulin de Salazar came about because they found it so difficult to find accommodation that fitted their criteria. They were looking for something that was
- Upmarket without breaking the bank
- The facility to order meals or to self-cater if so wished
- Comfortable and well equipped with a "home from home" ambience
And, finally, where the "host/s" were welcoming, warm and hospitable. They set about finding their dream property and, eventually, after weeks and weeks of travelling all over France came across Le Moulin de Salazar, a delightful but very dilapidated watermill in the Quercy region of South West France.
Their solution was to create four, fully self-contained accommodation units on the 1st and 2nd floors of the watermill, with attractive and comfortable furnishings, appealing to the eye and practical for all. Whitewashed walls, with Mediterranean colours contained in the soft furnishings, and quality bed and bath linen.
They started trading properly in the year 2002. They didn't just offer accommodation. They leaned much more towards providing the sort of services available in a good hotel offering a great guest experience, whilst still retaining a home from home atmosphere where guests became part of the Salazar family.
Paulette's husband passed away in 2010. Since then she has worked towards extending the range of products from self-catering style units to bed and breakfast through to all meals and she is now updating again and offering tours and packages aimed at showing off the very best that France and, in particular Quercy, can offer. She is also aiming to showcase the local French wines and the classic French "home-made" dishes and to bring this to the forefront of her hospitality business.
A new product that she will shortly be showcasing will be offerings to the solo traveller - particularly those that are in need of a bolt-hole, perhaps due to illness or stress and, particularly aimed at hard-working females who need a "breakaway".

Paradise
It’s our 3rd visit and it’s coming home. We are relaxed sitting either by the pool or looking over the river watching the wildlife and nature drift by. Paulette never changes and makes this home from home. Fab country side and eatery’s.
