We know the area like the back of our hand - from the best restaurants to eat at, to the best places to visit, so rest assured, we've got you covered.

Ever thought about "living the dream". Well, we went one stage farther - in July 2000 my French husband Bernard and I started out on our adventure. Originally hoping to move to Spain from Bourne End in Bucks we finally ended up here in South West France, about half way between Bergerac and Toulouse in a little known area called "Quercy".

Did we buy a little house and settle down to French village life - no of course we didn't. We bought a huge run down watermill, sitting on five acres of grounds looking somewhat sad and forlorn.

We must have been mad. Well, perhaps just a little. To be truthful we bought it because Bernard dreamed of owning a watermill and I liked the river beach and fishing pool.

So we turned it into a lovely "home from home" retreat. I have now lived here long enough to know the region well, to be able to point you in the right direction for restaurants, shops, bars and where to go and what to see.

I have never forgotten the first time I saw my Salazar, looking out over the river beach, hearing the trickle of the water and seeing my first kingfisher, and I can promise that you will never forget your first time here either

I used to do this all the time. Book the flights and hotel separately so I got exactly the accommodation I wanted in the place I wanted to be. I was, of course, so much younger then and the details that bother me now never occurred to me then. There are so many of these details to consider when you are travelling solo, and, especially as a solo female. The times we live in now are also, sadly, a factor to be considered.
